For those of us who pay cash for your fuel, here's a good way to save at least $50 per fill up.
Many Wal-Marts have a Murphy's in their lots. If you go in and get money on a walmart gift card, you get .03 cents per gallon off. Everyone pretty much knows this.
But did you know that alot of Murphy's sell deisel upto about .20 cents per gallon cheaper than the truck stops? I have found abunch of them have some really good prices.
Like in Corsicana Tx, Forest MS, and other places. And the good thing about Murphy's, is that when you call them, they will give you the price right on the phone.. hardly any truck stops do that.
You can go to their website, and print out a copy of every location. It will give you their address, phone number and if they sell deisel or not. Then you just call the one your needing, and they will give you the price and even directions sometimes.
I have live search on my phone, so I can look up the closest one, get directions, phone number and even a map, right on my phone.
I have saved several hundred bucks since I found this out.
BTW, it's best to get in there late, but not before they close (Usually 11pm or midnight) But they open early.
That way you can disconnect your trailer, fill up both tanks, and get out of there before the manager says anything, or the traffic gets bad. Trying to turn your truck around with cars all around you sometimes is a real pain and it p's the 4 wheelers off.

I know in WI they quit doing the .03 with walmart gift card they said it was illegal or somthing along that line. Then they tore out all the gas stations that were at the Walmarts.

I scored at a Hy-Vee store in Newton, IA. If you showed your sales receipt from the store, they took off .05/gal if the sales receipt was $50 or more, and took off .10/gal if the receipt total was greater than $100. Yes, that was for diesel or gas, take your pick. I live near there, so had the wife do the shopping there and save the receipt. It is good for seven days. They have been doing this for several months now. The clerk could care less if you are filling up a car or a semi. There is no limit on number of gallons on the purchase. Can only get the tractor in on their fuel islands. But you can drop the trailer by the receiving docks. Like the original post, Murphy's is a good choice as well.

There is a Safeway grocery store in my little town, I have been buying fuel there every chance I get. I have to drop my trailer to get in there and it takes 30-40 minutes to put in 200+ gallons but they are almost .20 or more cheaper than the truck stops in Denver. I filled up there earlier tonight and paid 2.23 using my Safeway club card that gives .03 off the posted price. I think the cheapest fuel in Denver was 2.49 so I saved over $50 bucks tonight filling up.

I was wondering what happened to that station. I see your from Tomah, I'm from Sparta, nice to see a local guy on here. -
WI has a law that restricts the ability of one big company to come in, set lower then cost prices on gas in order to drive out the little guys so they can then raise them above what they were. This is what walmart does best. The law forces prices to remain within a small percentage of each other in any one "zone" Wi has zone pricing on gasoline. You will see fairly consistant pricing in any one neighborhood where as if you come to TX you may see $.20gallon cheaper directly across the road

Excuse me if I show my ignorance, but isn't there a fuel tax issue if you buy "car" diesel for a class 8 truck? Won't you have to pay fuel tax at some point?
-
all on road fuel has road taxes on it. Only off road fuel doesn't have tax
-
As Medicine Man states all fuel has a tax.
Whether it is car or truck diesel, it has the same road tax.
In some states there are differences between the car and the truck such as Indiana, but this is because of the trucks not having sales tax on the diesel because of ICC.
Could not remember your state, so went out and checked.
Arizona has a lower price on the car diesel because of the weight tax that is added to the truck side. I believe it is 32,000 lbs of weight. -
You are in AZ, they have a surcharge for truck diesel there. I think its .08 per gallon so you couldn't do in where you are.
