I not too conserned about the downtime since I already have another 12.7 in my old truck, its more of the labor pulling it out of the old one , rebuilding, pulling the motor on the newer truck and putting the rebuilt one in, that's a lot of jinking around, so I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Plus I really don't have the ability to be pulling motors that big and moving them around in my garage( I'm sure a 12.7 is gotta weigh around 5 to 6 k and my tractor aint gonna lift that)

Those weights supplied by the engine manufacture are the weight of a long block. Block, head, internals. Doesn't include anything that bolts on such as manifolds compressor turbo etc.

Ok so 3100ish pounds. Still nowhere near the 5-6,000 that @jbob1 was guessing

All the bolt ons is a lot more than 300 lbs. I'd plan on needing a 5k capacity lift.

I pull them with a 5K forklift. Leave trans supported in chasis and pull most all acc because usually need good place to bolt up lifting brackets. Have a 7.5K IMT crane on service truck, but not enough ceiling clearance in my bay to lift heavier loads. Here is current job. KIMG2223.JPG Have any local heavy equipment guys with service truck that could pull it for you on the weekend?

Just an educated guess, but Fitz and their cheap inferior mismatched parts have given their series 60 motors a bad name! They turned a million mile motor in to a quarter million mile motor or less. Once you get their parts out it can be a great motor, at least mine is.

this is excactly why I'm thinking about this, I know the motor was worked on at 225k but not sure what was replaced and if fitz. supplied the parts. I would like to keep this truck for another 10 yrs if at all possible ( who knows what the government will push down our throats in 1 yr let alone 10yr) so I'm not afraid of spending some money now or in the near future if it will be more reliable down the road

Why not keep making money with it, Till it needs an OH, then do it up real good, 5.8 isn’t too bad, for a Coronado or a Classic. Pretty common. Despite all the high mpg reports heard.

Honestly I think that's terrible. If my classic was only getting 5.8 I'd be trying to figure out what was wrong. Now that being said, new pistons and liners aren't going to magically make fuel economy go up but a significant number. there is something else going on that's sucking the fuel.
