It can if that said driver was working for either a private fleet that ran the product or a carrier that actually paid well to haul the product. Then big orange comes in and says we can do it for free basically, and that driver is SOL.

I pull dry van for them and my checks are always over $1000 as a rookie driver. When my checks are under 1000 that’s only bc I take 3 days off or have appointments back home. 43cpm can’t really complain no touch freight as well only work 8.5 hrs of drive time a day no more then 9.5 on duty time a day.

    Schneider pay per diem.

They deduct .02/mi from your linehaul rate and then split it. So if you are at .49/mi with per diem it would be .30/mi taxable, .17/mi tax exempt and they pocket the .02/mi as an accounting expense.
With the tax law it looks like company drivers can't really deduct the $63/night unlike owner operators and lease drivers.

Theres a graph that explains it, but it also assumes you are paying 34% tax rate. I personally think paying $2000+ to schneider for per diem isn't worth it when an accountant would be a lot cheaper and able to do all your taxes.

They give you the option of wanting per diem or not as well as insurance. I just took both it won’t be for long as soon as I hit my 1 year mark I’ll be going owner operator with SNI, being a company guy with them is a great stepping stone in my trucking career.

Do I understand this correctly? For approximately six months your paychecks averaged $1100 per week? But $4,000. of that pay was bonus pay. So subtracting the bonus pay you would have made approximately $946. per week or roughly $49,000. per year?
