i talked to the gye rebuilding my pump today, he told me everything looks good inside and will not need 6 new plungers, he said it looks as if i had gotten bad fuel or sat the truck for a couple years, he said plungers looked gummed up,he is going to instalked a rdbuild kit and had to order 6 new plunger nuts i guess, should have it back by the end of the week, ill repost again once that happens and how it runs, wondering if i shoukd run sumthin threw it once in a whike to keep it clean? mabe todays #### fuel not the best for mechanical engines?

makes sense to pour that in tanks, i burn 300-450 gallons a week so would need 3 jugs a week , sounds like a pain but dont think there is much choice
Oxbow Thanks this. -
well i got truck back friday, total bill was 4,056 dollers, first trip out this week, truck started right up no problem but!!!!! it now seems to be louder as in alot of diesel clatter or rattle, smokes like a mf when cold, and over all has less power, feels like my powerband is gone, im thinking the pump and advance unit was not installed properly, im going to check the timing or would like to myself once i get home, does anybody have a simplified way to do this, from what iv gathered i have to pin the flywheel (3/8 bolt)? pin the pump , i have herd 1/4 inch, 3/8 and half inch bolt to pin that?loosen off 4 advance mounting bolts thdn retighten? make any sence

What's your serial number. If it's a 7FB it does not need advanced at all. It is already running 21 degrees advanced from the factory.
Clatter and smoke says its advanced to farSAR, spsauerland and Oxbow Thank this. -
yes its a 7fb , i agree its advanced to far, im thinking it was not properly pinned timed?the shop tgat rebuilt the pump and advance was not the shop that removed it and reinstalled it, it is a place around thecorner they use, i know its not right drivin it but its close
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Roll the motor till the pump pin falls in, back advance bolts off. Back the motor up with pump pinned. Hand tighten advance bolts, turn the motor back in direction of rotation till the flywheel hole is just coming into window on the bell housing lock advance down start it and then recheck it. You want it to pin together or at same time on the 7fb. The reason you don't line them both up then tighten it is to take up the gear lash
