I have always stated that companies do not pay anything. They insist on paying .30 a mile if they can get away with it.
In 1974 a worker made a average of 4.08 a hour. If you took that era in money and inflated to today's dollars you will need to make 23.75 a hour to keep the earning and buying power level with no gain over 40+ years.
I say trucking needs to pay 30.00 a hour to professionals training pay of a minimum of .65 and 1.00 for full workers. IF they don't like that then pay 2500 a week salary. The net will be very close to 1700-1850 dollars which should be a income you can build a life on, raise a family, buy a home and so on.
Otherwise 10.00 aint #### as we say in the south. I don't even consider work at those low wages. I already have a income but am working on getting back on the road. The money will take care of itself.
kiss of death in job ads...competitive pay..

You have to press them. Epses said they had a home weekly route. Turns out you left out Monday and came home Sunday. The guy replied well that's weekly. I asked him if that was the hours he worked. No reply.
