Hi, all! Just found this forum and wanted to ask a question. I got a DUI in June of 2005. I use to have a CDL but let it expire about three years ago. I was driving straight fuel trucks and tri-axle dumps only. Recently, I have been considering getting my Class A and going over-the-road. My question is this: first, what are my chances of getting hired anywhere with a DUI within the last five years? Second, if I wanted to just get back my Class B with HazMat, Tankers, etc., would I have to retake the driving portion of the test? Or just the written portion? Thanks.

If you let your CDL lapse, you would have to start from scratch, right? A dui is very hard to get past a recruiter/safety guy.

I have 2 dui's three months apart in 1989. Should i continue with my cdl training? I'm going to a community college and my instructer said i should continue but im not sure anyone will hire me. I've been clean ever since but i listened to a internet blog, truth about trucking and that man said that some insurance companies will run your whole life record even though most trucking companies that hire people with dui's dont require 20 years from what ive seen its 5 or 7 or 10 years if they are willing to hire someone with a dui. can someone give me some advice.I'm running out of time for a refund from the college

It should not show up after 20yrs, but most criminal records (this included never go away). I would continue what do you have to lose.. Most major carriers might give you crap about it, but smaller regional companies usually don't.

I just looked on-line and some companies say none within 5 years, some say 10 years, and some say never. I don't think you're locked out it's just a few that say never so you'll have to look. You should make yourself a list of goals on where you want to be in 1,3, and 5 years or whatever and know the companies that will hire you.

Thanks for your input Gas Hauler and double dragon5. I wish you both the best and Happy Trucking.

Hubby just called Werner (not our first choice but...) and that recruiter told him since he had one DUI in 1982 they wouldn't consider him. We weren't really crazy about them but I was surprised that a DUI that old would hurt him; especially with a big company.

With that recent of a DUI and no current CDL, I'm afraid your chances are mighty slim.

Good luck with having a dui on your record and it will show up on your dac as well I dont see any hope. Should have taken a cab then you wouldnt be going through this. And to anyone else that will read this when you have a profesional drivers licence dont do anything stupid to mess it up cause it will ruin you then you will be bound working for walmart or macdonalds

You will have to take all tests and most insurance companies want DUI's to be 10 years or older.
