I am about to start school soon with this grant I received from the state of Michigan. The companies they work with are Transam, TMC, USA Truck, Stevens Transport, and Swift. I also think a few others but not sure which till I go back to talk to the man that helps people get into the school. I do not think he is a recruiter for the companies, just for the school itself. He told me the best to work for in the following order 1 Transam 2 TMC 3 USA Truck. He gave me applications for them to fill out, since they pre-hire drivers. So I did this and returned them now. Just waiting for my grant so I can start and waiting to hear from him about which company I can work for.
Since then I have done lots of research on here and on rip off report. I have seen plenty of bad things about Transam. I do not think I read one good thing about them, with their leasing and all. So I doubt I will go with them. USA Truck I have not seen too much about, but have been told they are not the greatest. TMC I have read good things and bad. Seems to be more good then bad. I know its a flatbed company. But then I recently found some bad things about TMC.
I am just very confused as to what to do. I do not want to be in a crappy company and having them screw me over. I have a family(wife and 3 kids) and was laid off, so I need to support them. I have been told by a few of my friends who drive, that I should be expected to be treated like dirt my first year and not get the miles they promise or anything of the sort. Is this true? Maybe its just from the company they started with.
I also have read and the man from the school said TMC pays by percentage or by the mile and your home 46 out of 52 weekends a year. He said percentage is usually best. Sorry not trying to complain or seem like I am a know it all, just need advice from any drivers as to what I should do. I really would appreciate it! Thank you all.
One more thing, I found another flatbed company called Maverick. They seem to be good too.
