Tis always the case though. The harder you work and the more capable you are, the more is asked of you.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

The more I require.
Then the beancounters look into crunching numbers. Especially the case if you’re at a place that pays overtime. Huge red flag for the beancounters.FlaSwampRat and AModelCat Thank this. -
We've been really lucky to have the crew we have. Most of them are in their 50s, 60s, and a couple are over 70.
Our youngest driver is in his mid forties. The other guys call him "the kid".
When I read the horror stories on this forum and read what some of these so called "drivers" post it makes me appreciate the ones I have. I don't have to hold their hand, wipe their nose, or worry about hurting their tender feelings. I give them their work to do and, barring any unforeseen problems or changes, leave them alone to do it.
I don't mean to make our guys sound like supermen. They're not. They make mistakes just like anyone else. When they goof something up they own it, do what they can to fix it, learn from it, and go on. No whining.Thankfully, there just aren't very many mistakes.Gearjammin' Penguin, FlaSwampRat, Cattleman84 and 3 others Thank this. -
I would probably do that myself out of pride and shame.
Not so for the new generation.Gearjammin' Penguin, FlaSwampRat, KANSAS TRANSIT and 3 others Thank this. -
We have a saying in the LTL business. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the drivers.
I have a big problem with that.FlaSwampRat and TripleSix Thank this. -
Ha! Same as mining then!FlaSwampRat, MACK E-6 and TripleSix Thank this.

I don't blame you. That would drive me nuts.
We can't get away with that. Logging or road building in the woods, every job in the chain is dependent on the one before it being done as quick as safely possible.
One slacker, one incompetent, and the whole thing falls down.FlaSwampRat, MACK E-6, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
I went to a job site where I was notified that pocket as I was cutting a rope that ‘pocketknives were banned from the property’. Apparently, some idiot cut himself and filed a safety report. That’s the corporate way of dealing with people who can’t be responsible. One idiot can’t walk and chew gum and so you ban chewing gum. So, Johnny gets written up for driving into the parking lot and chewing gum. Next time he will be fired. For chewing gum.
$70 is a small price to avoid handholding with office jockeys.Gearjammin' Penguin, FlaSwampRat, KANSAS TRANSIT and 1 other person Thank this. -
As if any trucking company in Commieland could afford to retain my services. You want the best you need to shell out the cash.
