After more than a year of not driving and looking for a job, which includes being kicked out of the Navy, it seems I've found a spot at Swift. Trouble is they told me they were all booked up for orientation and probably couldn't get me in until September.
I just hope they're not as bad as people say they are. I don't want a repeat of CR England. I probably have to go through training all over again. Which is okay by me.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Looks like Swift wants me

From what I have read on these forums... Nothing is as bad as what they say about CRE.. But everyone has their opinions on boths sides for just about every company. I myself am thoeretically starting training with Swift on Aug 10th.... Depending on if my recruiter doesn't drop the ball on anything else anyways !!

I don't think anything competes with CRE for "screwed up"... I wish you luck, my friend.
truckermario and otherhalftw Thank this. -
Better keep the "getting kicked out of the Navy part" quiet. You don't want to shoot yourself in the foot, so to speak.
-
Pfft. They didn't even ask for my DD-214, so as far as they know, I was never there even though I mentioned it on the application.

ASk to speak to a classrom instructor, your recrutier when you ask what to bring, will tell you to bring fine point black pens, you need medium to regular black pens so ink will be seen by the computer that checks the logs, also take plenty of clothes and such that you will need before you can be routed home, just a word of advise.
-
find out if they do background checks, if they do then be honest and up front about it. -
They WILL find out. If not before you start, then shortly afterwards. Better to get it out of the way now before possibly wasting a lot of time and waiting for nothing. -
depends on how long ago he was kicked out, and what for. i voluntarily separated from the air force in 2002. yeah, it's a different situation. i didn't ever mention it, they never asked for a dd-214, and it was never an issue. of course, though, i applied to go through swift's school in late 2006, got on with them after the academy, and it hasn't come back to haunt me in any way, shape, or form.
as for swift itself, i've only worked for two companies total. i was at swift nearly 3 years total. compared to knight, they treated me much better, pay was a LOT better, and getting a hold of somebody on the qualcomm or phone during the night time wasn't really an issue. when i was there, you could choose to go on per diem or the regular pay. i chose the regular pay. their dispatching is forced. the only way to get out of taking a load was either due to home time coming up and you needed to go a certain direction, or hours of service. most of their terminals have working showers and fuel islands, too. the showers are pretty gross. at least they're free. running the 48 and canada, i usually had pre-plans left and right once i hit the i-35 corridor. if i was on the west side, i usually sat for a day or two waiting for a load. there are too many drivers who run the 11 western. 11 western is oversaturated with drivers.
the thing i had a problem with is their policy regarding idling. i didn't want to go through another year of the summer campaign against "abusive idlers." what actually led me to leave swift was landing a local job. i left swift on good terms and my old dm told me that was definitely welcome to come back whenever i wanted to. i ended up being shafted on the local gig, searched for 2 months to find a substitute, eventually gave in due to being almost broke, and called knight. i didn't go back to swift because they aren't taking experienced drivers. {=o(
