extra sharp cheddar
wheat snack crackers
a case of bottled water to wash it all down

Madame, i do not have time to argue with you; Bringing someone a glass of water simply is not worth more than .25 and that's being generous.
2) If your employer requires you to pick up plates when empty or when the guest goes for another helping, why should i or any customer be financially responsible for that---what the employer requires--not nessesarily what the guest requires?
i think it's best for everyone if we just drop it. -
My fellow big fat truckdrivers could save some money by not eating so much. I eat once a day on the road and drink water. It takes very little to maintain when when you're mostly sitting all day.

I think all your excuses are just a rationlisation for you being a cheapskate!
As for that employer? Minimum wage for wait staff is around $2.01 an hour( in midwest states), THAT'S why we work hard for the tips...
P.S. I hope that someday, someone VERY CLOSE to you, has to depend on the quarters that people like you leave, just to survive and feed their family.....

If the wage is so low, perhaps you should demand more or not take the job.
Why should the customer have to comphensate for the rest of it?
With all due respect, i feel that your thinking is incorrect.

Because it is a service based industry. Living in Las Vegas, I don't have a problem tipping. But let me explain how we do it.
1. If you go over and beyond what we expect of you to do. Bring our menus within a few minutes. Come back in about 4-5 minutes to take our order. Come back in about 3-4 minutes with our drinks. Then bring our food out still hot and ask us if we need anything else. Check back in about 5 minutes to make sure everything is okay. Pay attention to an empty drink glass at the edge of the table or an empty plate at the edge of a table. Then check back when we are nearly done or shortly after we are done to see if we are done or want dessert. And then bring the check within a few minutes of checking to see if we are done. That will get the waitress/waiter a minimum of 20%.
2. If the waitress/waiter does all of the above, but slower, they get 15%, which if I remember correctly, the law states they have to claim in taxes on every ticket.
3. If we have to wait.. and wait.. and wait for everything, and the place is not busy. Or the waitress continually "forgets" things and we have to flag her down and remind her, the waitress/waiter gets nothing.
The problem with tipping, especially here in Vegas, is that too many expect it without actually doing their job, or doing their job in a timely manner. I'll give you an example. If you are at the slots, drinks are free. When the waitress brings you a drink, it is "customary" to tip $1 per drink. If you don't tip, you won't see them again, although it is their job. If you give her a $5 tip, she will come back quite often however, if you don't giver her that $5 tip again, and give her a $1, then you prolly wont see her again for at least 30 minutes, if not longer. In this case, she by law does not have to pay for tips, and this is free money to her. And the reason I use her here, is that I have yet to see a ####tail waiter around a slots area.
At buffets, we do tip $1 per person. An example of when we don't, is for example we are seated and have to wait 10-15 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order and then go to the buffet. You can say we can go ahead and leave our ticket on the table and go to the buffet however, everytime we have done that, at various buffets, nearly always when we come back to our table, someone else is sitting there, with our ticket on the table. The problem with tipping at a buffet, is that you never know if the waitress/waiter is making the $2.01 or whatever it is, or making minimum or above wage. Some buffets do have signs that say "Please don't tip", most dont.
The bottom line is, the job is a service based income job. The feds make the waitresses take 15% on every sale, even if they don't get the tip, or make more than 15% from a tip. A good waitress will know if she wants good tips, then she needs to do her job, do it well, do it in a timely fashion, be friendly, be helpful if needed, know how to upsell without being pushy and do it all with a smile, whether they have to claim tips or not. I do not think running on one meal a day is the best way to run. You know that your body need more nutrition than that. To make good decisions and staying alert on the road you need to give your body something to work with. I would hope that you have some good snacks like nuts, beef jerky or something along that line to fill in until you eat that one meal.1nonly, truckerwannab and Baack Thank this.

i never had a problem except for one thing: On two seperate occasions, mechanics caused my cooler to be shut down. The first time, it was a freightliner with a battey protection circuit, and they left the doors open for 8 hours, which caused the battery protection circuit to activate, shutting down power to everything...including my fridge. The second time, they deliberately unplugged it and made no effort to plug it into a seperate outlet. Both times were right after i just went to walmart. Great timing, huh? But, as long as the cooler stayed powered on, it kept my milk from going bad.
Also, ive heard a lot of ridiculous complaints from other drivers about these. One in particular told me "the floor gets so hot that it runs constantly and causes it to wear out fast!"........the cooler does not have a thermostat. it stays on all the time no matter what. come ON.
if youre team driving, buy two.
