I first went to truck driving school in 1989 with United Truck Master and never hit the road. Now twenty years later I have completed training for the second time and will test tomorrow for my CDL. I am finally getting to do something I always wanted to do. Just wish it hadn't taken so long.

I know that all companies have some down side, and almost everyone has some one on here saying something negative about them including where I plan to start, but I have to start somewhere and I plan to make the most of where I am ... give them my best and try to prove all the naysayers wrong. In my eyes the worst that can happen is someone might be able to take advantage of me for a while and I will gain some experience .... if that is the worst I suffer in life I will count myself lucky.

Well, I got my CDL: passed the pre-trip, maneuvers and road test all on the first attempt and I go to oreintation at Star Transport in Morton, IL on Aug. 10. I have read some scary things here, but I have read some really good stuff too. I am going to try to do my best and make the best of where I am and hope things go well. At worst I will get some experience that I can take to a better company. I said in another post that while I was in school we went to a truck stop to talk to drivers from various companies and I was able to talk to a driver who had been with Star for over 5 years and was for the most part happy. I hope it goes that well for me.

Well, I thought I was going to orientation. Turns out there was some kinda foul-up at Star Transport. I got a prehire letter from them before I started school, talked to them after I got my CDL and set up my orientation, bought my bus ticket, which by the way is non-refundable, and lo and behold this morning I get a call from the recruiter saying there was some big mistake because Star doesn't take people with felonies. Funny, I put on my app that I had one nearly 10 years ago: woulda thought they saw that. So now I am trying to get in touch with CRST as they are the only company that participates in the externship program for my school, which I have to complete to graduate, that hasn't turned me down. Wonder what I am gonna do with a bus ticket to Morton, Il???
