Why is it that Prime allows pets on lease trucks but not company? What difference does it make if you're giving them a deposit anyway?

Not sure exactly why... I do know that some shippers and recievers have an absolute policy of no animals...
By having an animal on the truck, it makes a company driver less available for potential frieght. A lease driver chose to have an animal and therefore chose to be unavailable to certain freight (no pet customers)
I tend to think this is the case as they require us Company Drivers to have TWIC card and now a Passport to make us available for port and Canada loads. Its not a requirement for L/O.
Hazmat is reccomended but not required at this time. -
if the lease op is a trainer or instructor they are not allowed to have a pet either.

When a shipper/receiver has a "no pet" policy, does that mean that there cannot be a dog in the truck while it is on their premises, or does it mean that the dog must remain in the truck while it is on their property? (I read a post some time ago where the member mentioned having a dog crate on the truck for these companies.)
Also, pulling a reefer, do you think a driver would encounter this often enough to affect his/her ability to get miles? -
Most of the places, overall, that we go to have a pet must remain in vehicle at all times policy...
There are a few with an absoulutly NO Pet policy... on the truck, in a crate etc.. no pet on property period...
For a Prime company driver its not going to effect his miles because pets arent allowed on a truck period.
For a Prime L/O, cant say it will have no effect, but not much. Ive heard of L/O teams dropping their co-driver or ride-along spouse off nearby with the animal while they go in to pick up... but from what I gather, sales knows you have an animal on the truck and avoid dispatching the truck to a no pet facility.Ducks Thanks this. -

My trainer said he's seen pets on company trucks before. He said if you get 4 or 5 years in and it doesn't look like you're going anywhere for a while, they will usually bend the rules a bit on the pet policy thing. But I have yet to see a company truck with a pet on board. I'm thinking the pets my trainer saw were probably from people disregarding the rules.
Another reason Prime and many other companies don't have a pet policy is due to damage in the trucks. As with most things, a select few ruin it for everyone else. Torn up seats, cabin air filters clogged with hair, urine and feces that haven't been cleaned up, dried slobber everywhere, scratches by the windows, on the dash, and on the floor, beds torn up and peed on, etc. Not to mention drivers letting their dogs crap on customer property then not cleaning up after them. And there have been a few select reports that dogs were to blame for accidents as they caused a distraction. Instead of charging a deposit, they simply say "no pets" which is an easy way to avoid the problem all together. Some of these trucks I've seen with pets in them have far more damage than a simple $500 deposit would ever cover.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying working for Prime so far, but I also wish they had a pet policy. I'd like to bring a small dog aboard at some point in my driving career. But I don't want to leave a company I'm happy with just for that reason. I figure I'll stay with Prime for a year or so then see if I can get them to budge on the rules at all. Not holding my breath, but ya never know. -
I don't think damage is the only issue. Say you have a pet and leave the company for whatever reason, the next person that gets assigned your truck turns out to be allergic to the pet dander that may be left behind. That could be a big mess within itself. I think if you're not outright buying a truck it's a good idea to leave Fido or Fluffy at home for the consideration of the potential next driver that may get your truck.

Hello everyone, Can anyone answer these questions for me? 1. The way I understand it is like this. When you become a company driver for prime, You get assigned what ever truck they give you, With Prime having both Freightliners and Peterbuilt, In there fleet, Dose a company driver ever get a Peterbuilt? 2. Dose prime have any ,Automatics in there fleet. Like some of the other big companys do? 3. Ive herd that , The Peterbuilt weighs mere then Freightliner dose, So if this is true, Ist it harder , To get your fuel mileage with the Peterbuilt? 4. Dose Primes fleet run, The Fat single wide tires, On the Drive axlee? Thanks Familyman.

1. Company drivers have recently gotten brand new Petes, so I've heard on here.
2. No.
3. The 389 is lighter, but they cut the sleeper in half. So, yes and no.
4. Not yet, but we're running a load to CA in one of Prime's 200 new Utility Trailers with Singlewides. 1000 lbs. lighter than our Wabash trailers. -
Pet policy on company trucks is absolutely NO pets whatsoever. Had a fleet-wide message last spring asking anyone with a pet on a company truck to come clean. They'd just fired a company driver (long-tenure guy I understand) with a large dog.
I'm pretty sure it was the guy with the Malmute... beautiful dog. Deal was... park the truck, get your stuff, and be gone. There's no tollerance on this issue right now.
