In that type of vehicle I don’t know if you would have to have an e-log or if you could run paper logs, but you definitely would have to.

    Just an fyi.
Anything over 10,000 lbs requires logs. All log regulations are the same.
Thing is, part of those regulations allows the 12 hour / 100 mile radius exemption which most of the lighter trucks will fall under.
If it doesn't fall under an exemption that's for all CMV's yes an e-log is required.

SmallPackage and Rusty Trombone Thank this.

Is that the way it has always been? I could have sworn 30 years ago you had to have at least a B if it had air brakes.

My memory of it is needing a class c with an air brake endorsement. But that was a long freaking time ago so it's quite possible its changed, or I just have a bad memory.

Don’t need cdl to drive the 2 trucks in my avatar. They are now registered at 26,000 gvw. Air brakes and all. Trailer or no trailer. No work no logs either. Just retired the Pete to a toy.

Got 5 older trucks registered the same why. One is a ‘99 FL60 24 ft. box truck.
They are all 6.5 mpg everyday driver commute to work type cars. Lol.
I feel like a not so normal everyday four wheeler now. = sarcasm

No logs needed for any truck if you are a local hauler. You can pull double shifts and triple shifts. Nobody gonna question it

I don’t believe you have to log if you’re within 100 air miles of home base.

    And you would be wrong.
There are three criteria to use a paper log, and even then the 11/14/70 are still in effect.
    1. 100 air mile radius
    2. Released from duty within 12 hours of starting.
    3. Start/stop at the same location.
    (4. Company musk keep a record of the timecard)

Since the person I was replying to stated running pulling double and triple shifts that would be outside the 12 hour criteria, so the driver will have to fall back to a grid log (paper or ELD depending on other factors) so can do 14 hours, but no more.

(Ok there is the once a week 16 hour day, but it's once a week (or per reset) not everyday.)
