Hello everyone. Well, after hours and hours of research, which I think is a good thing to do if your going to be starting a new career. I have found that USA Truck is a good company to drive for. I have also found that most of the time the company is only as good as the employees and the career is only as good as you make it. I think with a positive attitude and the eagerness to learn a new career it will be a great company to start my career with. I wanted to thank all of you out here that have helped me and given me some great advice. I will keep you posted on my career. I know all of this may sound a bit "corny", but I am looking forward to it.
Be Safe and Happy Driving to All,

Well with that kinda attitude you shouldnt have a problem being a success wherever you go. It might take a few years but with a company like USA. The freight is there and you could get a dedicated account and get really good miles. The trick to this trucking thing is dont tell your driver manager, dispatcher or fleet manager where you will and wont go. If you tie there hands you will lose more than they will. NYC isnt all that bad or the island do the Northeast thing its not hard just part of trucking. Good luck to yea.

Like he said, With an attitude like urs you could work for the worst company out there and make it the best. And the holy NYC isnt bad at all. Im from Long Island and i ran the Cross Bronx, BQE all of it there its not bad at all just keep ur eyes open and watch what ur doing and you'll be fine out there.

My God, if I hear one more time about positive attitudes and it's good as you make it, i will scream. I was eager and had a positive attitude when I was 6 and marched off to 1st Grade.

Good luck with USA, I don't know anything about them.

From what I'm hearing of OTHER companies, USA isn't all that bad if,,,

1.) You don't want to go home often
2.) You can find stuff to do one the weekends,,, in a strange city far from home
3.) You can stretch a budget.

I had some bad experiences with them but for the most part here's what I found.

    Good:
1.) No touch freight almost always
    2.) EZ-Pass & Transflow
3.) Paychecks show up on time (Amounts make no sense sometimes though)
4.) Avoid VanDalia OH and your truck will usually be fixed in 48 hours.
    5.) They've got Freight.
6.) No hot-bunking/slip seating/etc. Your rig is YOURS.
7.) Fuel card (And Pilot points)

    Bad:
1.) No pay for Delays at customers
2.) Sometimes getting repair auth offsite is a PITA (I think this had changed though)
3.) Pay can vary wildly, and have a checking account for direct deposit with a $500 slush fund, don't screw around with cash advances on Comdata cards
    4.) Slow trucks
    5.) weekend dispatch,,, clueless
6.) Mechanics never sign off on repairs, and "good enuff" is about the most you can expect. (Great excuse for over idle time/qualcomm malfunctions/over speed notes, "They told me they fixed that!" works every time)
7.) Trailers are rubbish (but this WAS improving when I left)
8.) It seems like every Pilot on the fuel list is a dump. Get a copy of Challenge and learn where the OTHER Pilots are. Often there's a better one 20 minutes away.
