That's a bummer! I like New York but have retired from doing the city .
One of my best friends is a bronx born Puerto Rican that said ta heck with it and moved to Omaha.

Yes it’s actually quite sad to me what has happened to NY.
My family has lived in my little town in upstate ny for generations going as far back as the early 1800s.
It was the greatest place to grow up but has been in serious decline for about the last 30 years in my opinion.

I wonder what criteria they follow to determine who gets stopped at rest area weigh stations in NY and PA. I too have never had any problems. I think one time they did a very quick level 3 inspection years ago, but no issues. Even right now that I do not work for a mega fleet and my truck looks “generic,” they have not stopped me. Lucky me.

They used to look at the date on your inspection sticker(at least with my PA sticker). If it was recent they would pass you thru. They can set up at any rest area between the 86/390 split all the way to Binghamton.

You missed the point. Those laws and taxes are passed by folks coming from NYC. The state government districts are drawn up by population maps, not geographical maps. So the metro area of nyc has a larger influence at the state capital. If not for NYC there wouldn't be those ridiculous laws and taxes.

Illinois had the same problem, politicians from Chicago dictating to the small towns and corn fields that make up the rest of the state.

I take 88/86 versus 90 for the simple fact there is a lot less truck traffic on that route. Couple climbs but nothing to get excited about.
