1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

    Hello all!!!!!!!

I'm extremely interested in driving, I've ran from Florida to New York several times and love it.

But.............. and don't kill me guys.

I'm thinking I'd rather do like the UPS, Coke, DHL, Publix, Constrution, type of driving. Reason being I just want to be home every night.

Can you guys or girls tell me the difference in schooling going for my CDL, or anything that may be different then OTR?

Is all the same for the licenses, etc?

    THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!

Same license either way. Almost everyone would rather have one of those jobs where you are home every night. Good luck finding one.

Check into some area community colleges that offer a CDL training program, some schools range in price from $2800 to $5000. The school i went to is C-1 Truck Driver Training, 3 locations of C-1 i know of: Strafford, MO., St. Louis, MO., and Indianapolis, In. All i can state is find a "credible" school like C-1, do not, above all else, settle for 2nd best. Some top name trucking companies can put you through there school, CRST's school is in Strafford, MO., C.R. England school is in Indianapolis, In., I am not too familiar with any community colleges and/or a "credible" school in florida that i am aware of, not to say there are not any there.

Back in the 80's Publix paid great. Bet they are tuffer than hell to get to hired with.

Chances are you are going to need to get out and pay your dues. Usually no way around it.

Check with the votech schools in Florida.....TN it is $1400 and you may qualify for a grant.

Some of these places will hire you for dock/warehouse work and then train you for a cdl while you are working for them,....

I work for pepsi as a temp and I am the next in line for the next full time position, it has taken me three years though, but I get 18 an hour and when I get full time it is 25 an hour, so it is worth the wait, also when your new like me it slows down in october till november then december is busy for christmas and then it is slow until the middle of like march, I work in ontario canada.
