Center of gravity in van, reefer, flat is about 14 inches above deck I think more or less.
I used to load Salt in bags, about 3 and change feet high not including pallets. Put em all down on the floor.
Yellow curve in PA says 50 mph, I zip through at 70 like she is nailed down. Ive always loved those loads, making time.
With one exception, there used to be a wonderful tiny truckstop off a curve called Midway, almost room for 4 trucks, one pump, a counter and full menu 24/7 tiny spot along US6/US15.
I think the people either passed or went out of business by now. If you wanted a truckstop close to home cooking etc that was it.

Coiled rebar (slinkys) is an awesome load for the wind on a flat. Low, and the wind blows right thru them. I've pulled 48000 lbs of them across Wyoming in the winter and didn't even spill my drink.

We called those wire.
STrap strap strap strap strap strap throw i tall on there. Make a spiders web out of them.
Tighten one, another gets loose, tighten that, back this one tighten a third starts showing slack back over there tighten tighten etc.
Out comes the chain. Then the yelling starts, no no no no don't Bleah.
Between tiles and wire there are loads that are a nightmare to me.Upinsmoke Thanks this. -

Would 42,xxx (+ the 35,xxx the truck and trailer weighs) be considered "light "????
I have 93000 empty beer bottles.... just waiting to get filled....
Gotta pass through the I80 tomorrowOdin's Rabid Dog, x1Heavy and Upinsmoke Thank this. -
92,999 bottles on the wall, wheels go round and round.Upinsmoke Thanks this. -
Anything under 30, 000 is considered light...but, in Wyoming you gotta be careful because those roads combined with wind and ice are treacherous. Any winds 40 plus and your under 30000 on ice in wyoming u better get off the road.
I was 40000 year before last out there on 80, the signs said 40 plus winds but after I got west of laramie they were easily 60 plus..don't always trust the signs. I began to jackknife on the ice from the wind, fortunately I was going less that 25mph and got it under control ...
Pretty much anything over 50 plus and heavy..get off the road..stay safe driverjon69, Odin's Rabid Dog and x1Heavy Thank this. -
I usually eye the snow fencing. if the winds are piling and drifting them great.
But if the wind is bad enough to keep the snow from piling and drifting on the fencing and dump it all over the pavement low side to high side starting with the wind direction and working across the highway with a 4 foot drift that runs like a arkansas watermelon patch gone wild.... you have to think about parking her.smokey12 Thanks this. -
It's based on a lot of variables. Is your load high or low in your box. Is any of it liquid. Which way are the winds coming. 20k in the box with side winds over 45mph, is definitely light. Gusts of 65 dont really scare me with 40k+ low on the box, with a slight angle to the road.
I use an app called myradar to show me wind direction and relative strength. That way I know if most of it is head on, or side wind. -
My load is palletized bottles, up to about a foot from the roof, and about 6' from the door.... bottles are empty.x1Heavy Thanks this.
