Hi guys, ok here's me problem. I shut my truck off at a rest area, she was running like a top before I shut her off. Ok, so when I get back in the truck after about 5-10 minutes it wouldn't start. It will run on ether then die. Ok so on my little data star screen it says no data available, cel on, voltmeter is not reading anything. I've checked every fuse I can find, under bunk, on the firewall, check connections abs changed batteries. Still nothing. Can anyone give me suggestions? Thanks

Sounds like a control module isn't powering up or lost its ground. Sometimes there are power/ground wires and fuses in the battery box. Did you check those too?

Chubby Fly and Hulld Thank this.

Yes I checked all of those. Everything looks good. I'm almost thinking it's the ECM itself but i want to rule everything else out before going that route. I'm just wondering why there is no voltage showing on the voltmeter. Could a bad ecm cause that?

Typically ECMs are pretty well bulletproof. They do fail but not nearly as often as one would think.

I haven't touched a Star in quite awhile but I seem to recall the gauges are all multiplexed to the datalink in the 2006's. So if ECM isn't powering up or there's a break in the datalink, it wouldn't read (and neither would the DataStar).

Yes they are multiplexed, I checked connections and looked for broken or loose wires. I didn't see any. I do almost feel like there is something I'm missing tho.

    Hulld Thanks this.

My rig has a rubber jacketed fuse holder mounted under the battery box. It took some searching to find it one day when corrosion ate the fuse causing a similar issue. Every other one I had seen was inside the battery box, but not this one. It was tucked up in a wire bundle and not easily seen.

Ah ok, was it fairly close to the battery box or more along the frame?

My battery box was built by the car hauler manufacturer who built my rig, so the fuse placement may be different than yours. Mine was up behind the battery box towards the frame rail.

What does it do cranks but wont start? If so check to see if you have a 2 wire crank sensor. Clean it and clean the hole with magnet and leave shim out if it doesn't hit reluctor wheel. I've also seen on the older ones one tooth broken on the fuel transfer pump.
