We’ve got a 2006 Pete 379 with multiplex gauges. The door chime/turn signal chime/low air alarm all go through the speakers. We just had the truck in at the shop to get some front end work done on it and got it inspected at the same time. Since it got inspected the chimes were working at the time. Then it set for 2 months. I picked it up yesterday and the radio was lit up but wasn’t responsive. No buttons worked and no sound. No chimes in the truck worked either.

I wiggled the fuse and the radio turned on. Kind of. It’s picking up stations but the buttons are mostly unresponsive. For instance to tune to a different station I’ve got to hit the bottom 5-6 times to go up one station. Sometimes it will turn the radio off, sometimes it says no CD. Just with me hitting the tune button. Still none of the chimes in the truck work.

Any thoughts what the issue could be? I’m thinking possibly a bad radio causing all of the issues?

Edit:After looking at the sister truck I was wrong. The chimes etc do not go through the speakers. There’s another speaker behind the dash. So forget my thoughts about the radio causing the chime issue. Sounds like that’s a different issue entirely

Turns out the speaker is in the back of the gauge cluster assembly. I swapped them between the trucks and the issue followed the gauge cluster.

my question now is there any way to fix the speaker inside the gauge cluster? Looking online even used ones are 650-800. I don’t even want to know what Peterbilt is going to want for a new one

    SAR Thanks this.

Can you open the gauge cluster to get at the speaker or is it sealed shut?

I would guess that a solder joint failed
