Remind me of what point is being made here by the O/P?
Is it that if you are buying fuel you can park at the fuel island to take a shower?

    bzinger Thanks this.

It's all about context. If you were familiar with this specific location you would realise it isn't the same thing as parking on the fuel island at a pilot. In 25 years, I've never seen the pump lanes even half full. There is zero risk he is holding someone up.

They know their lot is full, even worse now that the place across the street went bankrupt. He said I needed to park, I said their lot is full of dropped trailers, he agreed that maybe they need to address that, and then dropped the issue with me. I would’ve left and not come back if he pressed the issue. It’s a convenient stop for us because of where we run, but I’ll go a little farther down the road to Hastings if they don’t correct it. I realize they probably won’t miss my $20k, but I’d venture a guess that they probably see at least $500k a year from all of our trucks and I’m not the only one that’s tired of it.

Yes occifer, I know I just peed in the truck parking lot but it’s not really my fault. They didn’t provide a porta potty within 100 feet.
And the cigarette butt I threw in the ground isn’t my fault either, there no crash cans out here.

Thought I’d update….now it’s an even worse hole in the wall. Parking lot looks like a combination trailer drop lot and truck junk yard with trucks and trailer in various states of disrepair. They’re lucky Crete bought all the land to the north, they’d be sunk in a chain truck stop had moved in. Meanwhile, the small fuel stop at exit 382 has capitalized on Shoemaker’s lack of management and has expanded their truck parking for those who need it. It’s sad watching a place that used to be one of the best stops around just go farther and farther downhill.

I think the problem with the new Shoemaker's location is that when they built it, they didn't buy enough land for parking. From what I see, the new lot only holds about 160 trucks or so. What they should have done is have an additional lot for dropped trailers and tractors, and a larger, off-limits to anyone else parking lot for customers who plan to sleep, shower, buy stuff, eat, and leave within a reasonable amount of time. Strange that other drivers haven't
mentioned the issue to Shoemaker's management by now.
