Idk bout the thing of fixing up old trucks. Unless you thoroughly go through them and replace about everything I would be slow to do it anymore. I used to think that was the way to go, but my old truck has me wore out. A constant list of things needing to be done, before you can get it all done new problems popping up. Everything from heat and A/C to front end issues to fifth wheel hitch slack it just goes on and on. None of it has been really expensive as far as money out of my bank account, but I have lost a lot of loads due to downtime for a $150 part. I'm getting tired of it.

That's true. Used to be, running an old truck was the way to go. Low initial investment, easy to work on, parts all around, somebody usually had parts you could buy, OR HAVE, but you're right. Today, I just can't believe how expensive EVERYTHING is. Years ago, someone had an air regulator in their toolbox, "here you go",,today, that costs $50 bucks. We simply can't go on like this, there just isn't enough money for everyone to be millionaires. I guess the only salvation, when, not if, the bottom falls out, and history has shown, it will, better to have the old truck you can plant flowers around, than a big truck payment and your checks are no good.

Just curious why do you think everything has gotten so much more expensive? Do you think it has to do with inflation over the years? Or is it just because everyone is trying to stick there hand into the cookie jar?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't even new trucks running into those problems today? You able to put a couple hundred thousands on them and then serious issues start occurring! Things now days definitely aren't built how they use to be. I've noticed through reading and doing research that the DEF system is really putting a hurt on newer trucks. Again please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this! This is just what I have read from the forum and I am in no way a expert!

Absolutely inflation. Those parts on the shelf, didn't cost much more to make than years ago, and some parts might have been made 10 years ago, but with the cost of everything skyrocketing, EVERY sale has to make up for their huge operating costs, and they know, pay it or sit. Big companies can absorb that,,,for a while, but as evidenced lately, even big companies can't keep up. It's a recipe for disaster, especially for the little guy.
