I have been doing flatbed for close to two years and I couldn't believe what I saw at a lumber mill the other day. I watched a dry van trailer get packed with boards by two fork lifts. One forklift brought a load of boards around to the trailer and set one end of the boards on the trailer. The other fork lift then picked up the end of the boards that was not on the trailer and pushed the load into the trailer. Once they got to the last two loads of boards it was too heavy for one forklift to push alone. So one forklift got behind the other and they both pushed the load in. I watched the truck driver shut the doors on the trailer and drive away without securing the load in anyway. I then got loaded with the same boards and had to spend over an hour securing and tarping. I asked one of the forklift drivers if they loaded a lot of van trailers like that and he said that they do it all the time. WTF!?! Is that legal?
Is it legal to haul lumber boards unsecured in a dry van?

Kinda like loading a boxcar I guess.

I’ve had several receivers that did not have docks, and they would use a chain or rope to pull the pallets to the rear of the trailer.jammer910Z and okiedokie Thank this. -

I loaded lots of containers like that. Fact is, my brakes, combined with the crappy chassis brakes, wouldn't hold the pushing and I had to block the wheels. I put a little sand on the floor so the bundles would slide easier. They were banded together. That was a steel container, and not sure how you'd secure them anyway, they were tight agin the walls. I don't think they would go anywhere. I never had a problem, and yeah, I'd hate to unload it.
