Exactly that!! My first job after getting my class 1 licence was working in the patch because i knew the owner of a mud company, barrel tanked after 8 months and i was out of a job.
I applied at every company that had a yard in or around saskatoon NO ONE would take me with only 8 months experience. It took me 2 months of beatn down doors before the company im with now took me on.
Its even worse now with the new regs from the humboldt crash

Yep, I’ve seen companies in AB/BC, that now require a minimum of 3-5 years experience for OTR and 5+ years for City/P&D.

Insurance, this economy, the liberals and the general decline of Canada; is sure destroying this industry.

My friend started at HL the same time I did and recently he ####ed up on one of his loads and it was a write off. Yesterday, he told me theyre taking $200 off every paycheque for 6 months to "recoupe" the loss. I told him to file with Canada labour board to get his money back. This is how HL stays in business, ####ing over immigrants and new drivers... I got my $4000 back from them so i'm happy :D

Well it certainly isn't due to the longevity of the equipment.

The drivers and the company seems to complement each other. These companies exist because drivers are willing to work there and low skill drivers have a job because these companies are willing to hire them.
