Good luck the feds wont see it as 2 separate h.o.s. M-F H.O.S carrys into Saturday's h.o.s. excempt or not. I was in same position as you. Saturday was my exempt h.o.s. my m-f gig, and feds wanted my saturday h.o.s. I put up a fight for awhile then finally hired out my Saturday gig.

Ahh, well I will cross that bridge when I get there. I'm typically finishing my work week on the M-F job around 40-45 hours, so either way I'm not worrying about it until I get there.

Had my first day of training at the fuel company yesterday. Sent me out with a driver thats been there for 4 years. What a miserable prick. My paperwork to the terminals the company pulls from was sent after 3pm on Friday so of course, none of them had any file put together for me to start doing training loads so I had to stand at the rack just watching as the guy wouldn't slow down to begin to really explain the ins and outs and whys of what he was doing. I don't think I'll be with him any more and I hope not, because he clearly isn't interested in training the new guy.

Yeah theres nothing like showing up for your first training day and getting someone who is pissed off about it. In some cases I can understand. I'd come into work and immediately walk into a dumpster fire, and then get handed a new guy on his first day on top of it. But some guys aren't trainers and they shouldnt be forced to train. Others want the money and could care less about the quality of their training

Oh geez hope they do get you with some one that’s more demonstrative. The loading process is gonna be the same as far as inside the racks. but I’d grab a notepad and write down the steps at the computer screen for pulling different contracts. Then have a notepad for each different terminal. Do you know how long you’ll be in training before expected to be on your own?

the loading process here is pretty text book

Oh I totally get those points as well, however, the guy pulled an additional $2/hr of "training premium", which was on top of the weekend differential he received for running on the weekend that the company pays. So since he was on O/T on Saturday, he was pulling in $48/hr for the entire 13.5 hour shift. The guy could have slowed down a bit to do a better job at least showing me a solid foundation and be patient.

I went and grabbed a clipboard and a legal pad to jot notes down as I go through the process further, especially for the rack computer. The current plan with my boss, since I'll only be giving them one day of availability a week is to get carded for the one terminal thats closest to the yard and work on the others as time goes by. The office figures I'll be on my own in a little under 2 months because of my limited availability that I'm giving them, which they are totally fine with doing. All of the terminals this company pulls from require that the training loads/bols you complete are done on separate days, so only one training load per day is possible with any of the terminals.

When I learned to haul fuel i had an awesome trainer with 30 yrs experience working for a major. He ran the first day at mostly his pace so I could see how it's done. After that first day we ran at training pace, he would call dispatch and tell them to take loads off if they got too aggresive. He was a pro through and through he even tought ergonomics which is huge in fuel. You make the product work for you, instead of the other way around. This keeps you from tearing up your back and shoulders in the long run. With fuel smooth is fast, the last thing a new fuel hauler should be worrying about is speed, that will come in time. Let's get it right the first time and not mess anything up!

Good luck man. Best advice when your new, before you pull that handle to start the flow ... check, double check, and check again. It is very easy to make a mistake during loading or unloading and it's all avoidable as long as your paying attention.

As stated before, get into a specific routine when loading and offloading. Makes it much harder to mess up because you'll feel like your missing something if you do something different.

Not necessarily that it's "clean", but more so that gas will dry up while diesel just sits. If you use a hose for diesel, and then put it back on the trailer without capping it, the diesel residue will drain out of the hose and get everywhere. Gas doesn't do this, so that's where diesel is less clean. You'll notice while sticking tanks, after sticking a diesel tank you will need to wipe the stick off with a rag because the diesel just sticks. When you stick the gas tank the gas will dry within 10 seconds lol.

About the trainer issue, if your trainer is giving you issues ask for a new one. Fuel is not the game to be getting half assed trained by someone.

Fortunately after talking to the guy that runs the show today, I won't be training with the driver I'm not a fan of, and will be with one who is patient and is happy to teach the right way to do things. So, I'm pretty excited about that.
