Take the pete and don't look back. Maintenance issues are a crap shoot on both so might as well enjoy the extra room and comfort of the pete.

As for turning radius, a 579 is a set back axle, it won't be noticeably different that the international.

    MYSTYKRACER and Chinatown Thank this.

I agree with taking the Pete. Also, if you’re going to be out 10-14 days, take the bigger sleeper.

How do the two compare driving wise? Pulling power up hills / mountains? Coming down steep grades? Braking effort?

Also how do the mirrors and blind spots compare?

You have not provided enough info to answer any questions about how they pull a hill. You say the pete has a paccar engine. Great. But which one? And what's it's hp and torque set at? Rear end ratio? Tire size?
Same thing with the international. You say it's got an x15. Awesome but Cummins probably has 2 dozen or more configurations for the x15 model. Could be a 400 horse with 1500 ft lbs of torque, or could be a 650 hp with 2250 torque, or anywhere in the middle.

But chances are, its a company hiring newbie drivers so both trucks will be gutless pigs.

Ask for a long nose Pete. That way when you are sitting at the diner you can brag loudly that you have a "long nose peter"

Peterbilt's reputation is durability. The models I had back in the 1990s 377s had terrible turning radius. They turned like a battleship, but I also couldn't back very well. I would pick the Pete. I would rather have the larger sleeper with more storage and if that came in a more durable truck, easy choice.
