Clearly I spoke too soon on Stepan's behalf as I've just had another dispatch drop out from underneath me! I should know better than to jinx myself like that.

 

Seems to me that Stepan has some very inept people running that facility. Stepan is suppose to be opening a plant right up the street from the Pasadena terminal soon, I hope they keep all those production issues up there in Elwood IL

 

really? Where at, towards Claryant...or near where the Quality Inn hotel is?

 

Towards Clariant, make a left out of the Pasadena yard and it’s about a mile on the left. They are moving into the old huish chemical plant

 

So I'm a little confused being completely new and all. Some people are saying this is a normal yearly slow down period and things will pick back up in the spring and be strong through the summer and early fall. But yet others seem to be saying this seems to be an unusually low, wide and prolonged dip in bulk freight.

I don't have a basis of comparison and from what I've read it may not be accurate to compare to 2018 since that seems to have been a banner year across the entire trucking industry. So can anyone who's been around for a while say how this point in the year may have been back in 2017, 2016, 2015, etc?

 

I only remember there being a slowdown during Q4 of 2016, possibly due to the election. I guess it depends what terminal you're out of. I haven't had any trouble getting out into the system.

 

Yeah, some terminals move faster than others. Where I'm out of, Wilmington, we always have dedicated out and of Aurora when it's slow.

I've been out sixteen days currently. A lot of sitting between loads. I deliver my 4th load today and see what Morrow has for me. They rarely use me at the end of a week, so I'll probably tank wash home.

I’ve lost hours life waiting in Stepan Joliet to drop & hook only to find out the load was cancelled. I avoid like the plague.

 

This year seems especially slow to me.

Different products have different busy periods, so it’s really going to depend on what the customer base is. As a general rule late January early/mid February have always been a slower period. Except for hard shell, but they’re getting killed by the warm weather.
