I am not, and never have been. They never explained to me why making less money is a good idea. But this isn't surprising.

This is just one of the many changes at Roehl. The pay packages have been changed. There use to be different options. Now it's just the per diem. While I can not say for sure this is just my opinion, but I believe the per diem is design to benefit the company not the employee. Only a few can actually do well on this type of pay package.

Roehl is getting a reputation of being cheap and difficult to work with. I have had to have the truck worked on and every shop is saying the same thing to me. What is really strange is that in their effort to be cheap they are actually spending more. They are also sacrificing safety with some of the repairs that need to be done and yet they won't do. One of the trucks had a cracked windshield for about six weeks before they got around to fixing it and another truck had a bad starter that they wouldn't replace until it was so bad they were going to have to have it towed. This has become especially true of tires.

As for the per diem- you bet it saves them money. By designating part of your pay as something else they reduce their unemployement, workman's comp., and social security tax. It was my understanding that they also reduced your total mileage pay by about $.02 per mile.

I've been saying things have changed at Roehl in the past two years and have taken heat about it which doesn't concern me.

The unpredictable home time is my main problem right now. I missed the appointment for my own move a few months ago.

Drove for these guys for 3 years.
Not bad for a starter company...beyond that you're probably wasting your time.
The thing that did me in was the LTL stuff.
It was like 6 skids here, 4 skids there, etc...and these were in downtown Boston, NYC, and other places where a sleeper truck dragging a 53' trailer really didn't belong.
Like the time I had to blindside into a shopping center in San Diego off a VERY busy 2-lane highway....talk about being stressed out!!!!
And then tailgate the load for no money.
I told them no more LTL not worth the BS and my time or my MVR/DAC from hitting someone/something.
They said OK...and proceeded to give me more LTL.
    That's when I left.
