In a word: Unlikely.

Unfortunately, you're going to have an extremely hard time finding a commerical driving job. There are countless newbies with spotless records who can't find a job. I wouldn't say there's a zero percent chance, but seriously, look into something else...at least until the economy is booming again.

well im only 20 and im starting my class next june, do you think ill be fine? to get a job

I'll explain MY troubles and you decide: I had 0 tickets or I should say 1 non driving award that everyone overlooked as it's a parking ticket, BUT I do have 4 other incidents on my old companies record, 1 bird hit, 1 hit animial 1 trailer door hit a Petes mirror when I pulled out of the dock and 1 actual accident. I was fired because I wouldn't take the offered L/P offer that my company went to (they actually fired all their company drivers who refused the fleece program) and it took me 6 months to get a DRIVING job! I did get a job at Wal-Mart stocking the deli wall for 3 months until this offer came in and I wish I had kept my Wal-Mart job! I'm also 55 years old and this is another black mark but I do have 32+ years OTR experience with almost every kind of trailer there is and I'm stuck with a bottom feeder company. But it's a job when I get paid that is! Anyone want to buy my bike?
The speeding tickets if they aren't over 15MPH of the posted speed limit and more than 1 year with 3 being the average you "might" get in. Before you drop that 5 grand on a school I would call the majors ie;Swift, Schneider, Stevens and a few others and explain your plight BUT remember these recruiters WILL BS you into taking their school and then drop you and you will still owe the tuition payments. Just take a ton of notes before you decide and then come back here and read about whoever you decide on or go to a truck stop and ask around.
I hope that shed some light on your plight!Last edited by a moderator: Mar 4, 2013

Well, that's over a year away. Not that I have a crystal ball or anything, but consider the following:
1) the economy should start growing again by early next year, but most economists think that it will be several years beyond that to recover all of the lost jobs...this will be a slow, slow recovery...so still many newbies with spotless records piling into trucking schools
2) even next year in June, your 3-year driving record will not be spotless (you will still have the restricted license on your record, at least)...and many companies are going back 5 years now
3) you will be barely 21...most companies now want 24 or older, due to insurance costs
4) you're located in Michigan, a really hard hit area job-wise and freight-wise
Not trying to piss in your Cheerios or anything, it's your life and you can do what you want. But if it was me, I wouldn't pin my future plans on this and hold off on other opportunities. -
well do you think if i move my chances will change to get a job? my record has 0 points on it can anyone help me

Put yourself in the shoes of these companies: They have 10 openings for drivers. Applying for them are 20 guys in their mid 30's/early 40's with spotless records going back years, stable job histories going back years, college degrees, no criminal background, etc.....and a 21 year old with an accident, 2 speeding tickets, and a restricted license. Now, what would your choice be?
Wait a few years, and they'll be 20 openings with 10 applicants. THEN you'll have a better than even chance. -
No one can help you, you have to help yourself. Just trying to give you some realistic info based on my hard-leared wisdom. Will you have a chance if you move? Who knows? We're just trying to get you to understand that it'll be a slim chance at best. Impossible? Nothing is impossible. Realistic, and plan for the future on this? No way would I do that.
