They survive due to pure cash flow. They are real good at manipulating numbers

Seams all self insured does is open loopholes not available to smaller companies and they can manipulate the numbers in their safety score. I laugh when I see people saying how safe they are but they just have more trucks to be seen... I wonder if the megas are paying them to say good things about them .

insuring yourself and just paying for a majority of claims out of pocket makes a lot of issues go away and never show up on documents that really should be reported . I’m sure if they had to be insured by a outside company instead of just writing payoff checks they would of been put out of business a long time ago or at the least investigated on their training and business practices .

maybe that’s why their are so many mergers lately . The megas just can’t continue getting away with as much as they use to anymore . Wouldn’t that be nice

Curious how being self insured means that they can manipulate their safety scores. That comes from inspections and has nothing to do with insurance claims.

Isn’t it a good thing for the single O/O or small outfit? I mean if Swift and the rest were all on the same insurance companies that we use, wouldn’t rates be astronomical? Best they clean their own house

Every company I've ever worked for is a mega and they don't just hire anybody. You are judged by your driving record and what kind of violations you have had, as well as how many violations in a certain time frame. You are most likely going to be subjected to a hair follicle test for drugs, so scum bags need not apply.

The DOT physical is on the look out for sleep apnea testing candidates too, just to cover their butts and the medical professional who examines you.

If you do have an incident, most likely it has been recorded by the on board camera which measures all the telemetry data, such as braking effort, rpm, road speed, g forces and whatever else the truck ECU sends to it.

Megas cannot afford to be accused of negligent hiring practices, as that will most certainly make the shareholders and stock analysts very unhappy.

You may be hired by a mega initially, but to remain there, if you are a problem child, is not going to happen. They can't afford to take the risk and in the world we live in, it's all about risk management.

Started out with Swift in 2013, hired, resigned and rehired numerous times until they wouldn't hire me again. Then I went Schneider and then on to Knight. Those are the big megas now, so if I don't know what I'm talking, who does?
