How much do you get paid for all this?

I’m not on the hook for anything. Not all the berries were bad. It’s enough that they don’t want to deal with it. My responsibility was watch for damaged cases and verify temp. I’m not required to inspect produce for defects. That would be very time consuming.

Paid an additional 500 on it yesterday and now I’m taking it back 445 miles for 1,100.00. The load had a nice rate to begin with. It’s stressful, but I’m not screwed in the money. My main problem is being in Arkansas Tuesday. I have a lot to do.

And the product had already been inspected at the shipper and had their stickers on it that it passed their quality inspection.

Do you charge extra in your rate to stand on the dock and check for damage and verify temp or just consider it part of the job?

Part of the job. They won’t pay extra for that. It’s in the rate con instructions on any produce load. Boiler plate stuff.

    RStewart Thanks this.

Good to know. I'll just have to add it to my bid if I go to pull a load that requires it.

I've had to do it in the past as a company driver but when I see something that says I have to count the freight or do anything like that than I've got to get paid for that also. These rates barely support hauling the load. Lol. I'm sure I'll get turned down a lot and that's ok. Plenty of reefer freight that pays really good that isn't produce.

I’ll count pallets but I’m not counting individual cases. That’s outside of my responsibility. If their bills match my load details, I roll.

Had a short fill up, 684 miles. 350 was the 7 pallets to NJ, I went the back way down 41 to 295, then loaded 43,600lb of liquid totes back across the turnpike, 10.16 mpg.

    SoDel and ChevyCam Thank this.

I’ve done several tanker loads, but not like this one. I’ve only hauled oils or additives that have the consistency of glue. This stuff is some kind of additive that has the consistency of water. This stuff surges a lot. Every time I hid a big bump is starts sloshing and moving me around. I could definitely feel it when stopping and starting on the city streets getting out of Linden, NJ.
