Don't let this happen to you, if you can help it. Hubby has had a bad year with trucking companys and he went to 4 different companys trying to find a company he was as happy with as when he was when he drove for Owner operators. It didn't work, all the recruters lied about home time or wanted him to go over hours on log, idle time was a big deal, even if it was 90 degrees outside and you were suffering heat stroke they didn't care, just said if you keep idleing we will bring you back in for retraining, he didn't need retraining as he said if you can't sleep at night because it is so hot then you will idle, that's the way it is. Anyway, now he has been off work for the last month, no one will hire him because he has too many jobs. Never had a accident, no DUI's, never ditched a truck, no points on his license, he had a perfect record, but because he has went through a few jobs, no all his fault but they won't even let you explain why things happened, they just basically said he should of put up with B.S. And he has worked for some Owner Operators in past and because they don't use DAC some of these company's say they won't count them as experience to use them to verify how much time on the road he has. Been a drive over 25 years and his driving record is blown to crap because of idiot company's. So unfair, he is depressed, when you get turned down by the likes of Swift and CR England you now you got problems. He is looking for local stuff now. What would you guys do?![]()

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Keep Trying ! Tell 'em , " Don't give up".
He may be applying to the wrong companies. They're out there and someone will give him a chance.
He ought to stay away from the larger trucking companies. They'll give anyone an excuse for idiotic reasons. Your husband went through many companies. So What! That just says, He's got the experience. As long as his MVR looks good, that's what should matter.
He should try applying at some Medium size companies. They seem to be more level headed when hiring on a driver. -
Just go with another owner operator, or buy a decent truck with an APU and lease on with a mid-size. O/Os get more slack. My Dad drove log truck for 20 years because of the OTR company BS, and he was #### happy doing it.

Look at it as a blessing in disguise.
This industry stinks.
And is only gonna get worse with each passing year.bbone Thanks this. -
Big companies that subscribe to DAC get lazy, if they can't find a driver on that, they don't bother, DAC needs them and they think they need DAC.
Try smaller companies, try the unemployment office, they will have leads and people reading the profiles sometimes contact you directly. Put in a good resume with the positives he has to show, someone desiring an experienced driver should be willing to give him another chance. About idle time, you have to follow the guidelines as well as you can, my company has none at this time, they made the mistake of buying poor APUs and now we are dragging around unrepairable dead weight. I nicknamed them 'Waste of Resources.'
I idle as needed for comfort, but I don't do much OTR. -
What do you do ? when APU's fumes absorb into the truck?
-
that sounds quite unsafe...

Replace the seals that are leaking. Ever have a hard time getting your door to shut and you have to roll your window down to shut it? That means your cab is sealed up nice and tight.

Consider it as getting out while the getting is good. The whole industry seems to be going to heck in a handbasket. Too many undertrained rookies, not enough solid experienced drivers, too much BS. I'm beginning to think this industry is in more trouble than anyone wants to admit. And beginning to wonder if it's gonna survive as something we all recognize as trucking. Long haul solo seems to have gone by the wayside for more regional driving, companyies seem to care less and less about their drivers. Now, I appreciate my limited time as a driver, and got to do alot of neat stuff. But I'm afraid that by the time I get back behind the wheel, I'm not gonna recognize the job anymore, or even want it.
