    I can't be sure, but I think 8 watts is way to high for an old amp like that, try backing it down to around 2-3 watts.

    I know preamps are legal. When the OP mentioned the SSB and Hi/Lo switch I assumed we were talking about a linear. Nice looking setup too WA4GCH.

    Also, unless you have an SSB radio, your going to want to turn that SSB switch off, that is a delay for talking sideband.
