Does this Connex have a FCC id # If so you can look it up on the FCC data base. That radio has good audio on transmit.

A good antenna will make your radio get out further. Your antenna is 90% of your radio. My favorite radio is the Uniden 78 XL
Wilson Antenna's are rated like stereo speakers. Lil Wil =150/300 Wilson 1000 = 500/1000 Wilson 5000 = 1000/5000
On a Barefoot radio 1.5 SWR reading is not bad for a Lil Will on todays vehicles, I think a antenna (Wilson1000/5000) with a stronger magnet...
If you are at the point that having the whip all the way down and your SWR improves, I would think about trimming your antenna 1/8 inch of a time...
