Well the Japanese have 45 days to file a formal extradition request from the day the guy was taken into custody,so the deadline is early July,which means about 2 1/2 weeks to go give or take.

Key to this would be the fact Ghosn isn't American. US authorities are not real keen on the idea that Americans violate ally's laws willy-nilly. Whether the Japanese prosecution of Ghosn is legitimate or not (and it is VERY questionable), is not relevant to the fact the Taylors inserted themselves into the process in a very unseemly manner. They no doubt thought they were untouchable... Surprise!
