Antitrust laws have 0 effect on a driver.
Drivers are also, for the most part, not regulated by labor laws.
As for someone getting hired for $29 a day.. Well, they are foolish to do that, but as long as it's a W2 job there are no regulations against it. Maybe the driver should demand more...

Thnk about this now...
Owner operators running for a buck per mile should be your safety concern too.
You cant maintain safe equipment for too long at this rate.
Everything is entangled and intertwined. -

Regulations that have proven to prevent harm to another is fine.
Regulations to keep an owner from his own bad choices are bad.
Plus, regulations that have been around for longer than you've been alive and then complaining you enter a field with such regulations is on you. -
Midwest Trucker, Long FLD and clausland Thank this.

Any time the government gets involved in "regulating" a free market system bad things are usually the result.
See the attached as just one example of what happens when the government gets involved in private enterprise. Albeit it is maple syrup, but just substitute a truck & trailer for maple syrup. Maple producers wanted a fair & equitable collective return for their efforts and enlisted the government to "help" them establish a government sanctioned "private organization" to have a set rate & production level for all producers.

That said, would you like the government to regulate how many trucks you could have? How many loads you could haul in a year? How about a set hauling rate, whether you like it or not too bad. How about regulating where you can go. How about regulating how many carriers are allowed to operate in a given State? After all, it's for the good of everyone right.
What I don't like is the government giving billions of tax dollars to failing big businesses, while the same failing mega saw nothing wrong with destroying the little guys by squeezing them out. Let them megas fail, just like any other business. That my friends is the epitome of inequality. Directing your anger towards the brokers & shippers is misguided...magoo68, dunchues, Rubber duck kw and 4 others Thank this. -
