Seriously, how difficult is it to just not do business with those you think are crooked as hell?

But that would put the responsibility on the truckers, and since nobody wants personal responsibility anymore they want rules to protect them from themselves.

Just like how he ignored the main part of my post about starting and running a business the way he sees fit. If a business fills a need it will be successful. There is nothing stopping him from starting a brokerage company, being completely transparent with the rates, and capping his cut at 15%. But he ignored that and focused on brokers ripping people off in order to be successful.

Because I don't want to be a broker. I don't have a broker in me.
I am transparent with my costs per mile.
Often times, let them know about it, when they tell me that I am too greedy on a rate.

    Deere hunter Thanks this.

Then maybe you shouldn't be saying they make too much.

I would not keep busy without brokers.
As a 1truck 1 man operation, I don't have the resources(time) to call direct shippers.
I don't have capacity to dedicate myself to another customer.
I don't run a lane. I like to go wherever and when I chose. Brokers help me do this.
Sometimes just doing my end of paperwork takes more time than I care to spend. Trying to get customers also wouldn't work.
    That's for me.
Locally I do have 4 companies I can load for directly. No brokers involved.

Those companies also have those same loads brokered. I don't see much difference between pay from company or broker. I think the brokers get paid my pay plus.
My point, without brokers I wouldn't see an increase in pay from these loads.

    More regulations, no thanks.
Don't take the loads you figure aren't paying enough. Reposition by running empty.
Find a couple direct shippers and run a lane.

I like the freedom to run all over. Brokers allow me to do this.

It doesn't matter how many brokers took a cut, what matters is I'm satisfied with the pay.

Brokers do have their role to play in the system.
It is none of my business to know how much they make. It has nothing to do with transparency and fair share.
It is all right for me be indignant by how little the want to pay me.
So the title of the thread should be better as
"Brokers don't pay enough...can we do anything? "

I saw a video of an interview with a broker, broker claimed the split was 65/35, broker gets 65%.

They pay enough to get the loads moved. It’s really not that hard to see it. If they didn’t pay “enough” the loads would sit.

It would seem like with all the tools available online that it would be easy to see if you want to work with any given broker or not. It would seem to be in people’s best interest to work with a few brokers and build relationships with them instead of hauling for 200 different brokers every year.

I know when I started in livestock it took me about 2 months and cost me about $10k to learn who not to haul for. And since anyone can sling livestock loads around there’s not even a bond to file on.

It comes down to due diligence and personal responsibility in my opinion. They regulate the broker’s cut or potential profit and then what’s next?
