I know when I ran a retail store (in another life it seems) I would never have stood for the government telling me I had to tell my customers the price I bought something for.
All they would see is I'm making 50% on this low cost item and not realize the reason that high cost item is able to be priced for 5% and stay in business is it's a balance.
Obviously a broker isn't retail, but other than greed on the o/o's part, what justification is there to demand the broker showing his profit statement? Will you willingly show the broker your profit statement?

No, demanding a broker show profit statement is simply o/o's that can't negotiate a better rate whining instead of getting better at negotiating.
Also, the reason rates fall (and raise) is 100% supply and demand. .If your fellow o/o's would stop taking the $1.00 / mile freight then there would not be brokers offering loads at such a rate.

If anything needs to be regulated is a basement price for loads, but even that is silly in my mind.

At that point is where the free market comes in. Each retailer will decide what profit they need to make on it.

A customer can't force a retailer to charge them less. They can only compare it to what another retailer will charge them.

The free market works it out.

If you hire a contractor and you compare three prices, the market works out the rate.

    Same idea.

If you need someone to force you to charge more for loads maybe you shouldn’t be in business.

I think the issue is Owner Op are federally regulated and all responsibility falls on them, why not share burden of responsibility with shipper broker carrier?

this way brokers would think twice before brokering a load at a cheap rate and shippers would think twice about giving it to shady brokers.

Just regulate brokers as you regulate drivers, don’t regulate profit.

So random drug tests, and Force brokers onto HOS? That will raise rates for owner operators?
I am guessing that the majority of owner operators who are struggling have never cold called shippers and receivers looking for new customers.

No I’m saying brokers are required to pass testing, like mortgage brokers, they should be required to have watchdogs on them so they dont double broker loads, things of that nature.

From what I understand, it’s only illegal if it states that in the Contract, or confirmation sheet. As long a one Broker knows that the other is involved, nothing wrong with one “ helping out” the other. All parties are agreed. It’s when they agree to take it,exclusively, then flip it, that it becomes illegal. Even then the legalities are between the two Brokers.

What responsibility does the carrier burden that the broker doesn't? Other than the obvious like damaged product in transit that is. And I'm honestly asking as I don't know.

Im not going to read all the posts, but even Brokers are entitled to make a profit. As much as possible, when they can. Just like your entitled to charge as much as the market will bear. Don’t worry We will all get our chance soon. And in my case. I’ll show no mercy.

Agreed. If I'm happy and broker is too, win F'n win on both sides.
