Nope, control has nothing to do with it. Its cost mitigation. Simpler trucks equal cheaper drivers. That simple.

But I will admit I sure do like the Eld the cruise control and the automatic transmission. That's forward-looking radar it's pretty nice when it works properly but that's going out pretty much about once a month.
Now they lowered the standards for hiring drivers because the government stepped in and is subsidizing so much of this. If it wasn't for the government helping out, half the people driving today would not be on the street -

@Damaged_Goods you have received quite a few replies noting that you should NOT be concerned with how quickly you can get from 0 to 60. There are a few really good reasons for that.
First, fuel economy. I rarely get my foot to the floor with my ungoverned truck. I normally give it about 50% throttle when accelerating. Take your time getting up to speed. I think companies that have governed trucks encourage full throttle behavior and it's a bad habit.
Second is all about safety. It's said that driving in slick conditions will quickly expose bad driving. Don't end up jackknifed because you didn't learn the finer points of keeping boost below 50%. Learn to drive with less throttle, especially when accelerating.
Third, engine and drive train health. If you make a habit of flooring it to accelerate you put strain on expensive components that don't need to be there. Another forum member said if hiring a driver with a need to get from 0 to 60 as fast as possible he would put you in an auto with only economy mode. Me? I would either never hire you or would fire you the instant you demonstrated a lead foot. -
