This is an old thread. The OP bought a shaker a while ago. All Western Stars have a steel cab. All Constellation and Stratosphere sleepers are aluminum with a plastic honeycomb between the two layers of aluminum. I have a similar truck wth a Detroit as the one you speced above, and had asimilar empty weight when I first bought it.

Thanks fortycal, i had heard about the honeycomb thing but only from one source. Do you think a truck with full tanks that has to weigh in at 18500 would be possible unless a daycab or volvo?/freightliner?
-
Volvos are all steel as well and heavy. Freightliner, or lighter speced any other brand will be needed. 300 gallons of fuel is roughly 2200 pounds by itself
-
All cabs are steel is correct but not all Constellation bunks are aluminum. When Western Star introduced the Constellation in 1997 they were steel framed bunks with steel panels. It wasn't until the unibunk (no rubber boot between cab and bunk) was introduced that the sleepers were aluminum which I believe was some time in 1999. So 1997 to some time in 1999 the Constellations at steel bunks

Learn something new every day. Mine was built Nov 1999, and it definitely is an aluminum 76" Constellation sleeper.
