My oil pressure gauge and temp gauge drop to zero as the check engine light comes on. It loses all power. This will last for a few miles then everything goes back to normal. It has a detroit 515 10 speed. Seems like a wiring problem, I just don't know where to start looking. Was wondering if someone else had a similar issue and might push me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it going through a complete shutdown? I would be looking at the oil pressure sending unit and connector. But like you said it could be some other electrical problem. Pulling the codes might give you direction.

No, it doesn't go into complete shut down. And the code it throws is 128. Which I think is a general engine code.

it is sender unit wiring issue. Engine ECM limits power to protect hardware.

Look at the ecm, the rear-most connector is the vehicle interface harness. The harness comes down, then makes a sharp U and comes back up. Pull back the wire loom on that harness and check it thoroughly for chaffing or broken wires. We (Ryder) have been having a lot of similar problems with those harnesses causing a multitude of problems. It also helps while your down there to try to re-route that harness to minimizes the sharpness of that bend.

I took it to Freightliner and they put a $3500 turbo on it. Of course that didn't fix anything and it ran worse. So I went back and the exhaust manifold was cracked. I asked the guy what the manifold and turbo have to do gauges and he looked at me like I was stupid. They changed a bunch of sensers. Now it has no power, spudders at low speed, but my original problem doesn't happen very often anymore. This truck will be my first and last Freightliner

May not be related, but easy enough to check: Take a look in the battery box for any disconnected, loose, or corroded small wires that would normally be on a battery terminal. I knocked a loose one off when jump starting my reefer and it turned my interior lights into a strobe.

PS: A turbo or exhaust manifold will cause random power loss, but will set a delta-P and/or VGT code. You are describing something that would suggest momentary loss of power or ground. They are throwing parts at it. Although not much consolation you probably needed them anyway.

What Freightliner dealer did you go to? You came in complaining about an oil level gauge going down, you're right what the frig does a turbo have to do with the oil pressure light? Especially, if the light only came on when it said you had low oil pressure. I would have asked them BEFORE they replaced it, why they are replacing it, why it is bad and what the hell replacing the turbo has to do with your oil pressure gauge? As far as it being your last Freightliner, find another competent shop to go to and I think you're problems will be solved.

I don't get it, why shop's just throw thousands of dollars of parts at a truck and people go along and agree with the repairs with no success.
