have a mxs cat and have always noticed chirping noise and all rpms, checked all pulleys and have replaced tensioners and belts,is this a normal noise for these engines or what should i look for,has cat had any problems with compressors on these engines?

Some 6NZ C-15s (same basic gear train as MXS) have an unusual noise from the timing gears but I have never seen one fail because of it. If you pull the fan belts off and start the engine, listen for the noise, if you can still hear it then its an internal noise, if you cant hear it anymore then the noise is from the belts, pulleys, fan, alternator or A/C compressor (or any other driven component you have fitted). A lot of Freightliners out here had early hour Horton bearing failures with the spring applied type Horton so maybe its worth checking the fan drive out. if the noise is internal perhaps take an oil sample and see if there is anything in the sample that may suggest a problem.

Just pull the belts off and spin the fan, listen for any noise from the bearings.

The Horton clutch did nhave a recall or service bulliten on it. They had many of the clutches go bad and take out the radiator, hood, and whatever else got in the way. So basically which it closely and don't wait for it go out. If you can't find the moise, get a mechanics stehascope ( the spellings wron I bet) and you can track it down that way. I check my idler bearings about every 50,000 miles with one just to be safe.
