I just installed a Stage II PDI kit on my 07 Mack with a 500 ISX.Love the performance and gained 1 MPG,have noticed the turbo will stall if taken below 1400 rpm.Anyone know if these turbo's like high rpm's or do I have other issues

I'm going to bet you have what PDI calls a Stage 2 turbo.........it actually is too small on the turbine housing. To eliminate the stalling/surging, you'll need to change the exhaust housing to the nozzle ring housing. You may also need to widen the Map Width Enhancement Grove towards the air inlet opening. I can supply you with the nozzle ring housing for $1750 plus shipping. I can try to talk to Jerry about swapping the Compressor Cover with the grove widened, doing these two things will get rid of the surge.
May I ask who sold you these parts and tune?Last edited: Sep 22, 2011

Yes it's the Stage 2 turbo,Will was the name of the salesman

What does your rig make for max boost? did ou have the sage 2 tune with the factor turbo a all? performance?

It will give 35# of boost,it has the complete stage 2 setup.I found the hood insulation was loose and when the hood shut it would cover the charge air cooler a little. It runs much better,I can upshift with no turbo stall and can pull down to 1300 RPM.Jumped a gear on most hills.

huh,
My 600 ISX with PDi sage 2 was reading around 50# of boost on stock VG turbo. Looking for an upgrade though

Yeah throw that VGT in the dumpster. No more problems with the veins getting cloged up and not being able to properly open or close causing some laggy problems and poor power. Also it would be one less thing to go wrong and a regular old fixed geometry turbo is so much more reliable and stronger when it comes to being under extreme duty.
