Which is better in your opinion. I drive otr and haul reefer. The Pete is an 07 386 with c15 cat, 10 sp, 3:55 gears. 800,000 miles. the freightliner is an 06 century midroof. 12.7 Detroit, 10 sp, 2:62 gears. 600,000. Ex schneider truck. The freightliner is $10,000 less. Can I get your opinions. Best value, weight, fuel economy, reliability. Thanks in advance.

I would choose a Detroit over a cat any day, parts seem to be more accessible and better fuel mileage. Old Schneider trucks are decent trucks.

$10,000.00 in savings on the purchase should be enough to help you decide .

The Freighty with the detroit and 200K less miles and $10K less money, better reliability, hopefully lower repair costs and better mpgs if driven right....... need i continue?
Put the $10K you save into a maintenance account.

Take the freightliner. It is a better business decision. It's 10000 cheaper on sticker price without bringing it lower and it has fewer miles. Parts will be easier to find and cheaper for the freightliner. The Detroit is a solid dependable motor that will be cheaper to fix than a cat. Parts and shops are more common thanks to Schneiders love affair with the century and 12.7. Looks don't make money. You can always repaint it if you want. On top of that, you can rebuild that truck to your specs. If the transmission goes, you can replace it with a 13 either new or rebuilt. The rear ends can be swapped for 3.70s or whatever you like, when it is time or you find a good price. You can rebuild the Detroit and give it to Pittsburg power. They will make that motor even better and it will then go another million with no issues at 7 mpg. The century is a better choice. Take it and don't look back.

I love detroit engines, however an 06 12.7L with an egr not so sure, what are those 370hp? which part of the country do you run in and how heavy? Also that century is a midroof and you will be pulling a refer so your mpg will suffer.

All east of the Rockies. Loads will differ but I'm sure all will be 40000+. The midroof does have a fairing on it. Another downside is the freightliner has the stationery 5th wheel. No sliding. It does have a wabasto heater and the Pete has an apu.

A thirteen speed and 3.70 rears will work better. The truck will pull better and run quicker. If you care about fuel economy, it will also help. The Detroit may not pull like a cat, but a tune up from Pittsburgh power will help. A rebuild from them will give you a rock solid motor that will pull. If I'm not mistaken, you can make a fifth wheel unstationary. If not, it's my bad memory. The Pete has better rears and motor, but rears are not that expensive or hard to replace, and a motor can be turned up.

I would take the Pete. It costs more, but it has an apu. The accert Cat is not known for great mpg, but I haven't driven one, so I don't know what mpg u might get out of one. Imo, petes are durable. I have an '03 379 in the driveway with 1.1 million miles on it. Its got a 6nz Cat. Plus that Freightliner has probably been driven by a bunch of mistreated, angry rookies who have abused that truck. And remember, neither of those trucks will meet CARB requirements, so that would be a problem if u wanna go to CA. Screw Freightliner, Petes rule. Oh, and the Cat will produce more torque (it is a bigger engine, 15 litres).

The Pete he is looking at is a different animal than your '03 379 / 6NZ CAT. The new CAT motors do have poor mpg and questionable reliability. Hang onto that '03, getting to be like gold out there.
