I have a 08 pete with a cummings and I get a awful squeel at times. It sounds like its comming from the turbo. I get 7 1/2 to 8 mpg most of the time and I have changed both belts, so I know its not them. Any help would be appreacited. Thks Roy

It is most likely an exhaust leak. Check to make sure all the exhaust manifold bolts are intact, they are known to break off and then the exhaust manifold gaket leaks. Generally they drill out pretty easily, make sure you replace them all and toque to spec. Also check the bellows around the EGR valve and such. You SHOULD be able to see black streaks which would indicate an exhaust leak and that will be your problem most likely. Good luck

If its at the higher end of the rpm's it sounds like your turbo may be on its way out. I always change my oil sooner than later , keeps the bearings rolling a bit better than muddy oil. Think of an oil change like a transfusion. Keeps things cooler. How many miles does the turbo have if it has or has not been replaced yet? Endless variables it could be without looking at it.
-
the truck has 270000 on it and I bought it , it had a 100k. It doesn't seem to make a difference what the rpm are, it has happened at idle and 65 mph. I have it serviced about every 15k. Could the oil lines be cloged?
-
What model truck is it? What trans, rear ratio, tire size? What's your cruising speed? What trailer do you pull?
-
270k is still breaking in. =) if the oil lines were clogged it would have seized long ago. I recommend every 12,000 for pm depending on what application you use the truck in , not sure. Is the noise emanating from the turbo? Or is it a loose belt or other? Without the truck being in front of me it's a bit tough to determine. Is it possible to take it to a reliable mechanic? If its a squeel could be possibly the clutch on the a/c too but again endless possibilities. I take it your truck is not a glider and has a DPF motor in it. They can be and are a headache. Doesn't the government know these things need to breath. Too much back pressure if you ask me. But what the heck do I know. It's a big business cleaning them and urea is profitable for the industry.
-
I'm not saying your motor uses urea but the newer one do.
-
2008 Cummins has no urea, but does have a DPF filter. Keep an eye on that EGR Cooler, those motors are know to eat EGR Cooler's about every 100k-150k miles.

Check the charge air cooler boots for leaks check the back two exhaust ports for broken bolts check the turbo mounting bolts for missing or broken bolts and check the fan and a/c belts an tensoners for wear cracks and tightness cummins always seem to have squeling fan belts also check the fan hub as I have seen them squeling when there on there way out
