Speed sensor is on the transmission.
Bamabones Thanks this. -
Pull the sensor out. Blow on it like its a old Nintendo game catrige. Put back in. Problem solved.

Hey Heavy, would the transmission speed sensor cause the triangle light and stop engine light to illuminate? My mph gauge isn’t working neither. The truck just kills after driving it for about 1/4 mile. I clear the triangle light with my handheld scanner, and after a 1/4 mile of driving it does it again. My truck is has the Eaton automatic 10spd.
-
Typically, the stop engine light only comes on for severe reasons. I don't think I have seen this combination yet. Do you know what codes are getting logged?
-
Code 731 knock sensor. And I replaced the VSS sensor and the speed odometer still isn’t working. The truck has been tuned tho and it started right afterwards.
-
You’re getting the knock code because the ECM is seeing a demand for fuelling without seeing any vehicle speed. Fixing the VSS issue should address that. If the issue started after getting it tuned they more then likely changed the VSS source by accident in the ECM.
-
You was 100% right!! I confronted the tuner with the issue and indeed he installed a manual 10spd tune into my automatic 10spd truck. He reflashed the tune and all is well (until next time, there’s always a next time lol). Truck is running like a scalped ape!! Thank You Chuck, and Thank you Heavy D.
-
Heavy D , my 2015 prostar needle when key is turned goes all the way up until its pointing straight down at MPH and stays there. The shop has replaced the VSS that didn't work. I have had truck tuned but no problem for about 2000 miles after tune. I'm being told it could be the gauge cluster...... your thoughts?
-
Very rarely it’s the gauge cluster. Check for voltage at the speed sensor probably a wiring issue.
