In my 09 Prostar when the truck is off and I turn key to accessory to listen to radio (aftermarket) I hear a buzzing sound under my fuse panel on passenger side. It seems louder sometimes when lights are on and other times it will go away completely. Anyone experience this or know what's going on? It's enough noise to be quite annoying.

Put your finger on each relay when this happens and see if it is a particular one.
-
Could be the low voltage disconnect but I don't think you can stop it
-
Thanks guys but to me the noise is below the fuse panel and relays. It's towards the floor behind kick plate. How does this low voltage disconnect work? Guess I'm not up on that.
-
The low voltage kick out cannot be mistaken. This called load shedding and is body controller controlled. When it senses about 12.1 volts the dash will beep annoyingly and the dash display will read "LOAD SHEDDING". The relay for that is under the center console right infront of the shifter. Under the fuse panel is the heater box. Closer to the floor is the linear power module for the blower motor and ABS module. Nothing else but wires. This is an area where some installers put in equipment for satellites or other devices. Does your truck have anything like this?
-
No it's always been an owner/op rig with no data linkage that I can see. Only thing may be a gps or e log in dash (mounting holes and spare switch wired). This truck always reads 14.1 or higher on voltage which I'm not used to. And recently it has been doing random beeping while driving but no message displays. Only other thing I found is previous owner only ran one battery cable to starter and left other tied away which I'm fixing tomorrow. Could that be causing the excessive voltage or do these always run high? It spiked once to 16 volts but returned right away making me think regulated is going.

If this happens exclusively only when the radio is also on, I would have to assume the radio is involved some how. I wonder if it is wired correctly and has a good ground. In that same area under the fuse panel is a couple of actuator motors for your heater box temp blend/mode and recirculate. They may be the source of the noise. If you open the passenger door and stand outside on the passenger side, can you pinpoint closer to where you hear it? Is there any chance it is from the door speaker?
-
It does it when radio is off as well and I don't hear it coming from speaker. The heater doesn't work on accessory mode so I don't think that's it.
-
Without seeing it, I really don't know what to tell you. You'll just have to experiment by turning things on/off one at a time to see if it effects it at all. You could also try pulling your breakers one at a time to see if a particular circuit or accessory is at fault.

That was my next step. I listened closer and it's definitely behind the lower panel. I can tell that panel has been removed before as well. Thanks for the ideas. If I come up with anything I will post.
Heavyd Thanks this.
