There is another thread covering this, but figured I would shoot this at you also. I personally think one antenna is better. (One Good One) But two also looks cool IMOP and does have forward and rear gain over the more Omni-direction of a single. Check this sight out. Its a good quick overview.

2 antennas would make it derectional forward and backwards 1 is the best bet its radius on transmit but if your useing factory coax then its set up for 2 so if you onley use one then you have to get your own coax if you want a suggestion if you ant having a shop tune it and your not familar with tunning process then get 18ft of coax and a Frances ant is shoud match in no higher than 1.5

I just left the factory one and used that bird perch mount with a 5'5ft francis and ran it on a seperate coax. Seems to work great so far, Just worried that the antenna may hit a few bridge overpasses since it's a tad bit over 14ft

Back to the original poster.
1 or 2 will be fine. I prefer 2 myself. And I prefer they be metal, not fiberglass and coiled wire.
2 has the benefit of no directional dead/weak spots. And reception is much better IMO -

I know some of you are interested but there is a history to that Yes it does perform better in a correct settings in actuallity each antenna must be tuned to a SWR of 1:1 at least for optimum performance.
I know some sites offer the sugguestions but I'll save you the search.
- install antennas if not already installed.
- have a SWR meter and the jumper the jumper goes to what ( I hope the maker labeled it right ) Transmitter other side to radio antenna jack.
- other side of meter should be marked Antenna put antenna called a PL 259.
- remove one antenna.
- key transmitter around ch 23 is approximate center ( which includes the R/C channels ).
- tune antenna until a SWR of 1:1 to 1:2 is attained.
- replace removed antenna.
- remove tuned antenna example you removed drivers side and tuned passenger side, tuned and replaced drivers side, now remove passenger side and tune drivers side.
- tune antenna and reinstall removed antenna.
- if you wish you can remeasure which wil be in the ball park.
- remove SWR box and jumper reinsert antenna coax back to radio.
I did alot of CB antennas during the 1970's and learned the ones that perform well and then there is some so so antennas that you wonder why they sell em !
the Big Names were Antenna Specialists, Hustler- Newtronics, Hy-Gain, Avanti, Firestick, Francis, Wilson, and I seen some that were in the Craze Days that faded away.
some were merged into bigger companies.
