Good to hear you still have a job.
I could show you pictures of stuff that has happened, but my ego would be bruised. Get out there and move some cars.
Your personal safety is first, so watch your back, your step, don't stand where the tie down can smack you if it lets go.
Keep in mind, you will take anywhere from 4-7 hrs to load your first. Then it will drop to 4 hrs, then 2 then you'll be in and out in under an hour. Speed isnt the main concern, but be prepared to take forever loading.

Vans aren't this stressful, but it will become second nature, and its a job that you are always using your head.
You will be loading in your mind the next load, you will be planning the route, watching like a hawk for low stuff, and checking your cars for the slightest damage. It is a mental and physical job, but the rewards are nice. Atleast I think so.

Give it the ole college try, and take pictures....lol.
Best of luck Joel with your decision. You can always go back to vans anytime you want!

Update. I worked all last week for this company and traveled a few thousand mile, they had me work a 16.5 hrs last thursday and drove in from Tenn and finished out the week in columbus on Friday. Now this comapany has not paid me. The money for the week prior was suppose to hit my account yesterday. I called the owner yesterday to find out what the problem was, the guy is a flake. He acted as if it expensive to train people that don't stay on. Regardless of me staying on, they still owe me for a 65 hr work week completed. I'm going to call the OHIO department of labor, DOT about the excessive hours past 14. I never damaged a dam thing and busted my back while in training. Now these crooks aren't going to pay me what I have earned. Is this even legal for them not to pay me my last check. I'm pretty suprised by this.

There is no such thing as excessive hours past 14. You can work on duty as many hours as you want. You just can't drive after your 14 hr clock runs out.

BTW, he isn't acting. It is expensive to train someone. They didn't hire you to be a helper. They could have just paid your trainer to do all the work himself.

They should still pay you though, unless you signed something that said otherwise.

As you said, regarless of training cost I should be paid for working all week as a " Helper" if nothing else. The trainer said he is paid an extra $25 dollars a day. They paid me $50 dollars a day while in training. During the two weeks the trainer said we were able to ship an extra 20 cars. I helped cut his load time in half. I averaged at 65 hrs a week $3.85 an hour. So, basicly they paid out $375 to the both of us and paid for a one time/night $39 dollar hotel during that 10 days. Over all paid out $414 dollars for the training.

Like I said I have not collected my last weeks check so far only week one's check. Busted my ##### for nothing. Something tells me they were paid more than $20.70 per vehicle to ship the 20 extra during that time. $20.70 x 20 =$414 dollars.

Please don't start quoting the cost to run a business to me. I have a degree in business. I am fully aware of the cost associated with running a business Ins/overhead/payroll etc. My reward for being honest about not taking their shotty equipment out on the road is no paycheck. Honesty pays.. Yea right.

I have not put their name out yet in these forums and will not if they pay me. If they choose to steal from me then I'm going to post their name here, and every CL listing I see from them will have a RE posting to let others know to beware of the company. They are out nothing. People come and go daily from trucking companies from what I'm reading here in these forums.

If I had damaged one thing during that two weeks I would not be seeking weeks two's paycheck. I earned it the hard way.

The owner returned my personal email to him. He claims I will be paid by next week. I hope they do the right thing and compensate me for the work week completed. We will see. If they pay me I will remove this posting. I don't like to bad mouth anyone. It's all about character in life.

The company did pay me for my last week of work. It took till today and signing some papers to get it. They did the right thing in the end. For that I am thankful.

Good deal. I'm glad you were paid whats yours.
I thought you were talking about a union company like Allied or Cassens, and thats what I based my advice on. Thats what my experience is in this industry.
And sorry I misunderstood the equipment wasnt up to snuff. I thought you were hesitant.
Good luck in your 'new' adventures Joel. Atleast you gave it a shot.

What is it with disgruntled workers? First it was that you felt you didn't have enough training time to operate the equipment properly. Then when you pay was late it turned to "Shoddy Equipment". In the last two weeks i have seen a lot of ######## and moaning on the forum. Must be the summer heat,or children off from school that's making everyone so irritable:biggrin_2551:

You have a degree in business? Well you forgot about that truck sitting there not making any money because he wasted two weeks on you. Now it has to sit there at least another two weeks not making any money.

Glad you ended up getting paid. Hopefully you think more carefully about the next job you take.
