They told me thats what they would do but in this kind of emergency I can only imagine getting stuck someplace far from any motel.![]()

Don't forget your per diem.
-
Don't let them push you around.
You can attempt right up until your hours are up. If your manager can't understand that tell him you'll be happy to find the nearest DOT officer and have him explain the birds and the bees to the manager.
In bad conditions you bring a many times higher risk of having a wreck even one thats not your fault. Guess who will hang? you, not the manager.JustSonny, NukedNative, Kabar and 2 others Thank this. -
if you believe the weather is going to affect your ability to drive, making it dangerous to yourself and other motorists, then you have every right to park. They can't make you drive, but they will argue over compensating any expense you might have, like a hotel room, food etc. Although, I think $60 for a night in a motel is cheaper then a $60,000 truck and whatever your hauling.

Not to mention that if an accident occurred...his fault or no...A lawyer will get enough info about him running a daycab over HOS...and nail them big time....
-
BTW...any incident you are involved in goes on the SafeStat...
I have a "Tow-away" on my SafeStat, even though the cab driver ran into my trailer..... -
Tell him you tried , can't make it . sorry . All you can do is try top get to a truck stop and log off duty there . No doubt motels were filled up hours ago .
The exemption states you can exceed your driving hours by 2 hours but you cannot exceed the 14 under any conditions -
Also the exception states: UNEXPECTED; since you have prior knowledge of the impending storm and the hazard potential, you will be knowingly moving at your risk, not the driver manager/dispatcher.Double L and Working Class Patriot Thank this.

One more thought...since that region goes into panic mode at 4 inches, even if you made it to the shipper/receiver, probably nobody home...anybody hear the term:
SNOW DAY! If we aren't here, you shouldn't be either! -
That too . I delivered to Richmond yesterday and lost count of all the lighted signs with the message "HEAVY SNOW FRIDAY AND SATURDAY . AVOID TRAVEL . "
I'm home . We actually got a message from corporate safety saying to find a safe haven if we see one snow flake . Drivers are told to park well ahead of the storm arriving in their area .
We use Blackberries instead of Qualcomms which is great in these situations . We can sit at home or in a motel room and get constant updates on road conditions drivers send to safety .
