Was just at a WH the other day started talking to a guy who is with Heartland, i asked how they treating you over there. He says not bad, the only thing he had to say was they do not let you have an invertor in truck they will terminate you, and no trucks have apu's. But they will still ride your arse about excesive idling. Another WH I go to has JB Hunt DCS drivers there and they all seem to be happy, and there equipement is all top notch.

Why do drivers go right to the big companys?? i mean really put a little thought into it!! do some homework!! theres nothing good about them look around find a smaller company you live in Forsyth gezzz!! my company has 200 trucks off on weekends and during the week can do local work.need time off just ask need a load going where you want to go? just ask and there it is! You think heartless express will do that or JB plezzz? Do you drivers think theres only ten companys to work for or what? I dont get it. theres my two cents

If you want to be home on the weekends and make a decent living, look into the freight companies. I have been with Conway freight for almost 2 years and I couldn't be happier. I am home every day and make really good money. After 3 months you can choose between city p and d or linehaul. Those shifts go up for bid annually if you want to do something different. Starting hourly rate is right at 18 hr and .39 mileage. But money is not everything to some people. Everything is done by seniority so a first year driver on p and d can expect a run with alot of stops in a less than favorable area. Linehaul can expect a different truck 4 nights a week and if you do get one assigned to you it will probably be about 10 yrs old with more than a million miles on it no a/c, governed at 62. Your primary run will be 200 miles a night if you're lucky, and you will be on a forklift about 4 hours a night. A first year driver can expect to earn over 50k without any extra work. Like anything else you have to pay your dues. But it does payoff. I am on pace to earn nearly 70k this year. Our senior linehaul driver averages about 85k. I have seen many drivers leave thinking the grass is greener but almost all of them come back. I have also seen many veteran OTR drivers come through and leave because they just want to drive. You will be on a forklift the majority of the time, but the pay is great and you will be home. That's the most important thing. Good luck to you. Happy to help with anymore questions.
